One of the most important parts of setting up your wood stove is connecting it to the stovepipe.

Single wall stove pipe going from the stove to the chimney must have a minimum of 18 clearance to combustibles.
A stovepipe can either be single wall or close clearance or two walls.

You should pack insulation snugly against the outside box frame of the thimble but never place insulation into the area within the thimbles s cylinder.

From there cut out the space needed to install the thimble.

Running a wood burning stovepipe out of a wall.
Installation of the stove pipe is the same as for vertical installation.
A stovepipe will then connect the stove to a metal or masonry chimney.
Then you can measure up from the floor and mark the center point of the thimble.
Depending on the height of the rooms and the roof you may also need additional triple wall pipe.

Start with the rigid sections and work from the stove to the wall.
The 18 inch clearance may be reduced by using a metal thimble or a burned fire clay thimble and surrounding it with at least 8 inches of fireproofing material figure 3.
Install the slip connector or telescoping section last.
180 degree heat shields are available for single wall pipe to reduce.
That has the potential to burn.
