For optimal wool rug care the frequency of cleaning is as important a matrix as any other. The same wool fibers that enable rugs to hold a lot of dirt also let them hold a lot of water. To deep clean a smaller wool area rug choose a sunny moderate day. Wool rugs tend to be more expensive than cotton or synthetic rugs but they are durable and can last a lifetime with proper maintenance.

The first thing you ll need to do when cleaning a wool rug is to vacuum it thoroughly. You want to lightly dampen the rug do not soak it or allow it to get too wet. A general rule of thumb states that frequency better be high enough to prevent the dirt from accumulating into the fibers and yet low enough to prevent any damage to the rug. If you need to wash out a stain combine washing liquid water and white vinegar and scrub the stained area with a sponge.

Use a broom tennis racket or rug beater to hit the rug all over to loosen deeply embedded dirt. If your vacuum has a beater bar set it high for less abrasion. To start cleaning your wool rug take it outside and shake the dirt out before going over it with a vacuum cleaner. In general cases it is favorable to vacuum the rug twice every month.
