Wrx Power Steering Rack Leak

Ps pulley stops turning. Hey all so the past couple of drives i ve been smelling burning oil in my 2010 impreza wrx. Noticed more fluid leaking so took it to the dealership yesterday. I was told the power steering rack needs to be replaced 1200.

Looks like this is a problem with wrx s and sti s. Sometimes on start sometimes when letting off the throttle sometimes when turn hard to either side. One of the most common issues on the impreza is a leaking steering rack. Had the lines replaced and was ok until a week or so ago.

I drive a 2009 wrx no mods and noticed that i was leaking power steering fluid recently. The 2015 sti has the quickest steering ratio of any subaru product to date it s 13 1 compared to 15 1 on older wrx and sti models. Power steering sometimes stops working without the belt squeal. I believe i ve located the leak and want opinions on what could be the culprit.

I m having trouble with my power steering on my 2004 wrx. On narrow body 2008 2010 wrx models you will have to shorten the tie rod ends. My 2009 wrx started leaking power steering fluid a couple of months ago at almost 70k miles. If it is leaking power steering fluid then you ll find yourself finding it hard to steer in no time if you don t keep filling it up.

Everybody just replaces the entire rack but i wanted to see if i could fix it with. A little troubleshooting and i discovered the source the leak is originating from the input shaft coming into the rack and pinion gearbox. Power steering pump locks up and results in belt squeal.
